An Evening of Hindustani Music with Sanhita Nandi

The Department of Middle Eastern & South Asian Languages & Cultures presents an evening of music with acclaimed North Indian classical vocalist of Hindustani music, Sanhita Nandi. The event will take place at UVA’s McLeod Auditorium on Saturday, April 29, 6:00-8:00pm and is co-hosted by the Contemplative Sciences Center.  

 

As a performer, Ms. Nandi is known for her pure interpretations of classical structure and grammar and for the emotional depth and tonal precision of her music. Her song for the film "Salt Bridge" was nominated for an Oscar in 2016.  

 

Sanhita Nandi is described by “The Times of India” as a “torch-bearer … carrying the baton of [its] rich heritage.”  

 

She trained in the tradition of the Kirana Gharana also received her training from Pandit A. Kanan and Pandit Vinayak Torvi. She has toured extensively across the world.
